NICKLINE SUPPORT

A little help getting connected.

A few answers for your first connection, your usual network, and the moments when IRC needs a little troubleshooting.

Start with a nickname

On first launch, choose a nickname and tap Start Chatting to join the public network shown in the app. Nothing connects until you choose. The starter connection uses TLS and does not require an account on that network.

Already have a home on IRC? Choose Use My Own Server / Bouncer instead. You can edit or replace the starter profile later from Servers. Other networks may require registration.

Bring your own server or ZNC

Open Servers to add an IRC server or configure your ZNC bouncer. Use the host, port and login details supplied by its operator. Keep TLS enabled when the service supports it.

Nickline supports server passwords, NickServ and SASL PLAIN. Those are different sign-in methods: use the one your network or bouncer asks for. Nickline does not include a hosted bouncer.

Find your next channel

Discover Channels offers a small selection of suggestions on supported starter networks. It is not the network’s full directory. You can also enter a channel yourself or use /join #channel.

To change the name people see, use /nick followed by your new nickname. Availability and registration rules are set by the network.

When a connection drops

Check the Status view for the connection message, then confirm the host, port, TLS setting and credentials in the server profile. If your nickname is already in use, choose another or follow the network’s account instructions.

The app disconnects when it goes into the background. Automatic reconnect can connect again when you return. A ZNC bouncer can provide replay when it has retained the conversation; Nickline does not provide its own always-on connection.

Keep your space comfortable

Use the app’s block and mute controls to filter what appears on your device. For abuse in a channel, contact that channel’s operators or the network administrators through the route in its topic or website.

The message report view helps you copy context. It does not automatically send a report or notify a moderator. Nickline is an IRC client; the networks set and enforce their own rules.

Testing an early build?

If you already received a TestFlight invitation, use the feedback option for that build. Include the app version, device, iOS version, what you expected and what happened. Remove passwords and private conversation details before sharing.

Public support contact details will be available before release.
